How do I test the safety sensors?
Get a roll of kitchen paper and place it in front of one of the sensors while the door is open. Use the remote to close the door. It must reverse immediately. For the second test, you will need a broom, mop or rake. While the door is closing, wave it in front of the sensors. Again, the door must reverse. If the sensors fail any of these tests, they should be fixed or replaced.
Can safety beams be turned off or removed?
No. All garage door opener manufactured after 1993 are equipped with the said feature as compliance to government regulations. The garage door opener will no longer be in compliance to the said government standards if the safety beam is removed or tampered with. Remember, this feature is for you and your family’s safety.
What is a safety beam and how does it work?
A safety beam is a clear infrared beam that runs across the door at its installation point. The function of this beam is to determine whether something or someone can be hit by the door as it closes. If the beam detects something on its path, the door will automatically reverse.
